February 6 - 17, 2017 February 20, 2017 - March 3, 2017

The courses of the 2017 Trento Winter School on Numerical Methods are concerned with classical and modern numerical methods for solving non-linear systems of time-dependent partial differential equations in complex domains using general meshes. A broad range of methodologies will be studied including: finite difference, finite volume, boundary element, continuous finite element, discontinuous Galerkin finite element.

Target audience

The courses are primarily intended for PhD students, post-doctoral fellows and researchers interested in, for example, environmental engineering, aerospace engineering, geophysics, astrophysics, computational fluid mechanics, industrial mathematics, vascular fluid dynamics, numerical analysis, applied mathematics, physics and computational science in general.
To provide hands-on experience, the lectures on the theory will be supplemented with computing-laboratory based tutorials.

The courses are also suitable for senior academics and industrial scientists in managerial positions interested in assessing new trends in numerical methods.

The fee covers:

  • lectures
  • laboratory exercises
  • lecturing material and sample programs in MATLAB
  • coffee breaks and social dinner

PhD student or post-doctoral fellow status and IAHR membership must be certified with providing for a University/IAHR certificate (the certificates have to be submitted by the online form).

Application and registration

Application

The application to the School requires filling out an online form, that will be available at this website as soon as possibile.

The deadline for applying is January 30, 2017 (12:00 Italian time).

Please, note that once the deadline has expired, the form online will be automatically disabled.

Registration

The payment has to be made by the beginning of the Winter School.

Attendance certificate

At the end of the School participants will receive a certificate of attendance. The certificate will be issued upon verification of the signatures daily taken during the classes.

Participants interested in obtaining certified ECTS (6 ECTS – Toro - and 5 ECTS – Valli) will have to pass a final examination.

Organizers and sponsors

The courses offered by the Winter School are part of the Engineering Graduate School Environment Water (EGW) of the International Association of Hydro-Environment Engineering and Research (IAHR). EGW is a network of several international institutions which offer academically-orientated education courses on water and environmental related fields.

Organized by:

  • Department of Civil, Environmental and Mechanical Engineering
  • Doctoral School in Civil, Environmental and Mechanical Engineering

Sponsored by:

International Association of Hydro-Environment Engineering and Research (IAHR)
