The Italian National Agency for the Evaluation of Universities and Research Institutes (ANVUR) released today the data on the second Research Quality Assessment (VQR) on research conducted by Italian universities in the 2011-2014 term.

The VQR data, that will form the basis for the distribution of the part of the 2016 Ordinary Financing Fund that is allocated according to merit to (State and non-State) universities, confirm the top position of the University of Trento.

Trento in fact ranks first among State universities, and sixth in the general ranking which also includes institutions of higher learning and research institutes like Sant’Anna or the Scuola Normale Superiore in Pisa.

Rector Paolo Collini welcomed the news: «The assessment confirms the excellent results that we had already achieved in the first round. Our university keeps its top position for the quality of research, ahead of universities like Padova and Venice, that have become close partners of ours. This means that the network of North East universities can truly become a point of reference and a driving factor for Italian research and development. We are just one step behind the high level performance of special-statute public universities. The parameter that measures the ratio between quality of research and size of the university (IRAS1) put Trento above average of 18%. This is a remarkable achievement in consideration of the fact that State universities receive funding from the 2016 Ordinary Financing Fund based on this parameter».
