The final report of the XXVI Winter Universiade – Trentino 2013 was presented to the stakeholders and institutional partners.

The event proposed by FISU to Trentino in 2012 was sized by the Autonomous Province of Trento, the University of Trento, CUSI (The Italian University Sports Centre) and the Municipality of Trento, and it was a success! The great result, as already underlined by the FISU President  Claude-Louis Gallien, at the end of the event, will become a case history for future events to be organized.

Paolo Bouquet, Rector’s delegate for Sports of the University of Trento and Vice President of the Organizing Committee said that “After this experience sports definitely gained an upfront role as innovation tool. It now fully belongs to the strategic triangle training-research-technology transfer which marks the Strategic Plan of the University of Trento. The Winter Universiade unequivocally demonstrated that sports at university is a great strategic tool to cooperate with the local territory and community, stimulating international training and scientific cooperation - starting from Euregio and the Erasmus+ projects) and relationship with the national and EU institutions. The latter definitely consider sports as a tool to disseminate innovation”.

The Councilor for sports of the Autonomous Province of Trento, Tiziano Mellarini, highlighted that the Winter Universiade created a sound cooperation network and represented Italy thanks to an excellent organizational system.

Sergio Anesi, President of the Organizing Committee, recalled some figures of the WU: it was organized in 15 months only, with a limited budget if compared with the previous editions, it involved 2,100 volunteers, generated 14.6 million EUR of satellite economic activities, with over 30,000 night stays.  The result was also a significant exposure with half a billion contacts (newspapers, radio, TV and social networks), 630 hours of TV broadcasting and 136 million viewers from all over the world”.
