LGBT rightsI: Alexander Schuster in Montenegro to debate on same-gender marriages

negro started a debate and adopted a strategic plant to implement the Recommendation no. 2010/5 of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe to fight and reduce discrimination based on gender identity and sex orientation. 

Alexander Schuster, researcher at the University of Trento, Faculty of Law, in charge of the course “Legal aspects of sex orientation and gender identity” is among the experts sent by the EU. His course is unique at national level. Schuster is also a member of the European Commission on Sexual Orientation Law (ECSOL). ECSOL is a network of experts in the field of the legal protection of people, independently from their sex orientation.

Alexander Schuster began his cooperation with the Government of Montenegro in 2012, during the interministerial conference on human rights “Together against discrimination”. The event had been organized to debate the most suitable policies to face discrimination, meet the international standards and achieve a common approach in the promotion of LGBTI (lesbians, gays, bisexuals, transgender and intersexual). 
A new meeting was held recently held to present, debate and compares the solutions adopted in other EU member states, to find a solution on the same-sex marriages. 
 
Considering his experience on research topics regarding LGBTI, Alexander Schuster was in charge of the presentation of some models of registered unions, in particular focusing on the EU and international directives, and their impact in Italy. 
The cooperation between the researcher of the University of Trento and the Government of Montenegro will continue in 2015 too. He will participate in the international conference on LGBTI in the Balkans, within the framework of a set of events organized in Montenegro to better implement the European guidelines.
