The 41st episode of the digital calendar that traces back the main events of World War I is now online

Versione stampabile

The theme of the new episode of the digital calendar on the Great War is the battle of Passchendaele, one of the bloodiest of the Western front.

The episode opens with an in-depth presentation by Alessandro Chebat.

The battle of Passchendaele, a hell of mud depicted in many famous photos and portrayed Paul Nash in his paintings, fought between August and October, is recalled through a series of testimonies of British soldiers and a photo gallery.

The panel interprets the Flanders as a large funnel that swallows masses of soldiers who disappear leaving nothing behind. The 360° panorama is a photo of Hill 60, a hill that bombs and mines flattened where so many people lost their lives.

W. Lysek, who collaborates with "La GrandeGuerra+100” from Krakow, prepared a slide on the Regency Council. In September 1917, the Germans and Austro-Hungarians approved the creation of this authority, which should have paved the way to Poland’s independence. Its true purpose, however, was to secure soldiers and resources to continue the war effort, despite its uselessness.

The biographical section focuses on Lev Trotsky, one of the main figures of the 1917 Russian revolution and among the founders of the new Soviet State, as founder of the Red Army.

It is also possible to follow the calendar of the Great War on Facebook (La Grande Guerra più 100) and on Twitter (https://twitter.com/GGpiu100).
