PAD - Landscape Design is an initiative promoted by the Department of Civil, environmental and mechanic engineering of the University of Trento, in the framework of the activities regarding the Adalberto Libera Professorship of Excellence. The initiative is an exhibition/dialogue opportunity promoted by the TAL Laboratory, to foster dialogue on the quality of landscape design planning, from the dimension of the landscape to the design’s object, to highlight the importance of architecture, landscape, city planning and industrial design.

The exhibition will open on 27 November at 5.30 pm, in Trento at Palazzo Firmian (Spazio Arte Unicredit, Via Galilei 1) and will last until 10 January. Entry is free.

The topic of Design and Landscape is targeted to students of the courses of planning and design of the University of Trento, but also to architects, craftsmen and all citizens, to pinpoint the challenging fascination of the designer’s today’s objectives, with the relevant opportunities and dimensions.

Visitors will admire some of the original latest works by Joao Nunes, one of the most important international landscape designers, who used to lecture last year within the same initiative, and by Diego Chilò, an Italian designer from Vicenza, who was involved in some seminars and workshops of the University of Trento.

They are two experienced professionals, who share the desire to experiment, take their risks while planning and who consider the plan as a tool to change reality around us, be it the landscape or small and large objects of our everyday life.

Professor Giuseppe Scaglione underlined that “This peculiar combination between landscape and design is the start and the conclusion of an interesting set of experiments on the planning, that involved the great Italian masters like Adalberto Libera and Fortunato Depero, who starting from the study of the building and the landscape also worked on the industrial and artisanal products, through design.

The exhibition is located in the amazing frescoed rooms of the ground floor of Palazzo Firmian. It is divided into two sections: the former focuses on the works of Diego Chilò, his sketches, prototypes, implemented products, exhibited on a large working table, in the centre of the room, which simulate an in-situ reconstruction of his studio. The latter illustrates Joao Nunes’ works, through two videos and a set of large panels which represent the challenge of the contemporary landscape, between cities and locations, aiming at fostering the value, the beauty and the quality of the contemporary space. A limited edition catalogue is available, that contains the collection of original drawings and images of the prototypes prepared by the two designers.

The inauguration, scheduled on 27 November at 5.30 pm, will gather the two designers and important figures of the national and local academic and cultural world, which will present their idea and remarks on the PAD initiative and will debate with the two designers.
