The 43rd episode of the digital calendar on World War I is now online

Versione stampabile

The November episode (number 43 of this project that traces back the main events of World War I) focuses on the Bolsheviks seizure of power in Russia, in what is known as the October revolution, a turning point in Russian, European and World history.

The rule established by Lenin through a coup d’état in the month of October (November on the Western calendar) continued, albeit with profound changes, until the 1990s.Fotografia tratta dal sito "La Grande Guerra +100" che ritrae Lenin e Trotsky a Pietrogrado, nei giorni della rivoluzione

Read the contribution by Joanna Sondel-Cedarmas from Krakow, or learn about the revolution from the gallery and the panel by Adriano Siesser, on the Russian poet Vladimir Mayakovsky.

Like many other intellectuals of his time, he enthusiastically joined the Communist revolution, at least in the beginning.

The infographics by Elisa Corni provides data on strikes and social battles that took place during the war, which decreased at first and increased from 1917 in the other countries at war, in part under the influence of the Russian events.

To conclude, Giuliano Casagrande reports on the debate that took place in the Italian Parliament right after the defeat of Caporetto in an effort to identify any possible reasons. The testimonies describe the profound clashes within Italy’s leadership, which were shocked at the defeat.
