The University of Trento participates this year too in the Energy Saving Day, launched by the radio programme broadcast by the Italian national radio Rai Radio 2. All lights of the University will be switched off between 6.00 pm and 8.00 pm.
The external lights of the buildings of the Rector’s Office, the Departments of Engineering, Economics, Humanities, Sciences and the Faculty of Law will be switched off, as well as those of the Palazzo dell’Istruzione, where the Department of Cognitive science is located. The staff of the University will take part in the initiative switching off their PC and printer: a simple action which saves energy during the weekend.
In this way the University shares the aim of the awareness raising initiative which involves the entire country on a crucial topic: energy saving. This topic is even more under the spotlight this year: Trento saluted the International Year of Light, which a joint workshop organised by UniTrento, FBK and the Italian National Research Council, with numerous initiatives taking place over the entire year.
Sustainable mobility is another important topic for the University of Trento, through the activation of the carpooling and car sharing services which are now undergoing a testing phase. Soon other awareness raising initiatives regarding the enhancement of the waste recycling system will be implemented soon.
The University of Trento has been sponsoring for some years the “Good Energy Award” and will do so in 2015 as well. The Award was created by the Professional Office Studio Bernoni (Milan), which is a member of the Grant Thornton International Ltd, and is aimed at prising the Italian companies which have invested in the energy sector.
The President of the Jury will be Professor Maurizio Fauri, Professor at the UniTrento Department of Civil, Environmental, and Mechanical Engineering.
