Paola Iamiceli and Andrea Pugliese are new members of the Academic Senate, appointed by Rector Paolo Collini. Halfway through its six-year term, part of the Senate had to be renewed.

The mandates of Flavio Deflorian (from the Department of Industrial Engineering and deputy Rector), Gianni Santucci (from the Faculty of Law) and Giuseppina Orlandini (from the Department of Physics) have come to an end.

Rector Collini issued a second three-year mandate to Giuseppina Orlandini and appointed Paola Iamiceli (from the Faculty of Law, who will also keep her role as prorector for teaching and learning) and Andrea Pugliese (Department of Mathematics) to replace Deflorian and Santucci.

Iamiceli, Pugliese and Orlandini are the three members of the Academic Senate who are appointed by the Rector, as the Charter requires. The newly appointed members will work together with the four members elected by the academic staff in 2016 (who will stay in charge until next spring), Paolo Macchi and Riccardo Zandonini for the technical-scientific area, and Giovanni Pascuzzi and Giuseppe Sciortino for the area of social sciences, humanities and law.

Rector Collini appointed Riccardo Zandonini deputy rector.

In addition to seven representatives of the academic staff (four elected, three appointed by the Rector), the Academic Senate is composed of the Rector and, in meetings when the discussion concerns teaching, the right to study and student services, two student representatives. At the moment, student representatives are Daniele Facci and Pierfrancesco Mattiolo, who will be in charge until next November. Mattiolo replaced Lorenzo Tait, who resigned upon graduation.

The mandate for members of the Academic Senate lasts three years for elected professors, and is renewable once only; three years for appointed professors, renewable once only; two years for the student representatives.

The Academic Senate is the scientific authority of the University. It cooperates with the Rector in the direction, planning and coordination of the University’s academic and research activities and, in light of the proposals presented by the University departments and centres, collaborates to the definition and implementation of scientific and educational plans, to the allocation of financial resources and the recruitment of professors and researchers.
