The awarding ceremony was held in L’Aquila and Giada Bertoldo was the winner out of 40 participants, coming from 13 different Italian universities.

She defended her dissertation on "Landscapes in production. The Lanzarote case study “which was appreciated by the Committee. One of the Committee members was the popular German architect Hans Kollhoff.

Bertoldo’s work focussed on the landscape planning as a possible response to a sustainable tourism model, focussed on the territory and the safeguarding of the landscape and cultural heritage.

The specific case study analysed Lanzarote, in the Canary Islands: the environment is rich in natural and cultural beauties, but poor in water resources.

Giada Bertoldo explained that her work was based on a multidisciplinary approach. “Territorial analyses and inspections on-site were my tools to acquire a deep knowledge of the place. In this way I tried to imagine a kind of architecture on one side “to be able to see” the landscape’s elements and contrasting features, and on the other side a system to generate water in a dry situation, thanks to the principle of hydro-genesis”.

The main objective of the “Luigi Zortan Award” is to facilitate the participation of young graduates in international high-profile professional contexts. For this reason Giada Bertoldo has the opportunity to carry out a six-month internship in one of the headquarters of the architect Kollhoff Architekten (Berlin, Zurich, The Hague, and Florence).
