Profile and employment status of the graduates of the University of Trento

The XVIII Report on the Profile and employment status of Italian graduates, presented by Almalaurea last 27 April, shows an interesting picture of our 2015 graduates.

Here are some data.

Completion of University studies

On average, graduates of the University of Trento are younger compared to their peers at national level (25.7 years old vs. 26.2). The average duration of studies is 4 years so in this case, too, the University is below the national average, of 4.4 years.

The percentage of graduates who have successfully completed their studies within the prescribed time is above the national average (57.4% compared to 46.7%).

33% of graduates have received some form of scholarship, compared to 22.1% of the national average, and 74.5% regularly attended at least three quarters of prescribed classes and lectures, a percentage that is 6.5% higher than the national average.

Countries of origin and student employment

Graduates with foreign citizenship are in total 8.3%, which places the University of Trento well above the national average, at 3.4%.

This is even more significant if we look at Master’s degree courses alone, where graduates with foreign citizenship are 15.6% compared to 4.3% of their peers at national level.

Overall, 17.4% of graduates participated in study programmes abroad, compared to a national average of 12.2%.

And 70.6% of graduates worked during their university years, compared to a national average of 65.1%.

A satisfactory university experience

How many students, could they go back in time, would enroll in the same course of study at the University of Trento? The answer is 90.5% of graduates, compared to 86.4% at national level. A confirmation of this can be found in the positive data on the degree of satisfaction with relationships with faculty, which is 88.9% compared to 83.8% of the national average.

Also, 47.8% of graduates are of the opinion that lecture rooms are always or mostly appropriate, compared to 23% of the national average.

The same goes for computer workstations, that are considered positively and in appropriate number by 74.3% of the graduates of the University compared to a national average stuck at 34%, and libraries, that receive positive evaluations from 52.3% of graduates, well above the 30.6% of the national average.

After graduation? 

The time span between the start of job search and the first employment (required time to enter the labour market) is 2.9 months, compared to 3.4 months of the national average. Also, the time to enter the labour market after graduation is 3.8 months, less compared to the national average of 4.2. months.

One year after graduation, 56.5% of Trento graduates are employed, compared to 52.3% of national average. 

The unemployment rate is below the national average (13.5% compared to 23.4%) and the gap is even more significant for Master’s degree courses, where the same rate is 9.9% for the University of Trento compared to 21.4%.  

Graduate employment by sector?

The private sector employs most of the graduates, that is 78.7%, compared to 76.9% at national level; the public sector follows with 13.8%, compared to 16.5% at national level, while not for profit organisations employ 7.2% of graduates compared to 6.4% at national level. 

The percentage of graduates who find employment abroad is above the national average: 5.8% compared to 4.3% at national level.
