Prof. Giuseppe Riccardi, Department of Information Engineering and Computer Science, University of Trento, has been elected a Fellow 2017 of the International Speech Communication Association (ISCA). Established in 1988, ISCA has become the major professional association in the global field of Speech Science and Technology Development. With over 2000 members worldwide , the association is dedicated to promote activities and exchanges in all fields related to speech science and technology advancements.

ISCA Fellow is one of ISCA’s most prestigious honour. Each year, following a rigorous evaluation procedure, the ISCA Fellow Committee recommends less than one-third percent of its members to receive the fellowship. Since the ISCA Fellow honour program has been introduced in 2008 a total of only 51 Fellows have been elevated by 2015.

The citation of the fellowship is “For contributions to language modelling, spoken language understanding and dialogue systems”. That is the technology that powers most of the artificial intelligence based systems and interact with humans via conversational interfaces.

Prof. Giuseppe Riccardi will be the first person in Italy to receive the Fellowship. The 2017 named Fellows will receive their diploma and pin from ISCA President during the opening ceremony at the Interspeech Conference 2017 (September 20th -24th) in Stockholm.
