Carlo Miniussi, full professor of Human Physiology, was appointed new director of the Center for Mind/Brain Sciences - CIMeC of the University of Trento for the next three-year term.
The Academic Senate made the decision during its afternoon meeting on Wednesday, 7 September.
Professor Miniussi, who has been teaching in Trento since last June, will take office on 1st October and replaces Massimo Turatto, who temporarily held the position during the selection procedure.
Born in 1961, originally from Monfalcone, professor Miniussi scientific work focuses on the human mind in all of its complexity, and his research interests concern cognitive neuroscience with special attention for cortical plasticity issues in memory and ageing. Part of his studies are devoted to the assessment of the neuro-physiological consequences of some neural disorders through EEG and non-invasive brain stimulation techniques, like magnetic stimulation.
In recent years he directed his efforts to transfer knowledge from basic research to the clinical setting in view of transforming this knowledge in protocols that can be used to improve human health and well-being. From 1997 to 2016 he authored 155 scientific papers, three books and a number of book chapters. H-index: Google Scholar: 56; Scopus: 50.
Carlo Miniussi studied in Padova, where he graduated in General and Experimental Psychology in 1994, and in Verona, where he earned his PhD in Neuroscience in 1999. He was Research Associate at Oxford University for more than two years. In 2000 he became head of the Neurophysiology Laboratory and, in 2001, head of Neuropsychology, at the IRCCS of the Centro San Giovanni di Dio in Brescia. Two years later he was appointed scientific coordinator of research in neuropsychophysiology. In 2004 he became associate professor of Human Physiology and, in 2005, he started working at the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the University of Brescia. He has been teaching since 2001, at the University of Brescia and in master’s courses, specialization schools, national and international post degree programs.
In 2005 he founded the Cognitive Neuroscience Division of the IRCSS Centro San Giovanni di Dio and the University of Brescia. In 2007 he became a member of the Ethics Committee of the International School for Advanced Studies in Trieste. Since then he has been a member of the Institute of Neuroscience of the Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland. In 2011 he was elected president of the Italian Association of Psychophysiology. Between 2013 and 2016 he was full professor of Physiology at the University of Brescia and, since 2015 he has been a member of the Group of Experts designated by the Italian National Agency for the Evaluation of the University and Research System. In 2016 he was appointed visiting professor at the Science Department of the University of Sidney, Australia.
