An official statement of the Italian Presidency of the Republic publicly disclosed the appointment of Professor Daria de Pretis as Judge at the Italian Constitutional Court. The University of Trento welcomed and commented the announcement with great satisfaction. The appointment is a recognition of the career and high profile of Daria de Pretis, who has been the Rector of the University of Trento for one and a half years. Naturally, it is a source of pride for the entire academic community and for Trentino. Immediately after acknowledging her appointment the thoughts of the Rector went to the University of Trento, to the many people who have appreciated and supported her during the first phase of her mandate. She delivered a message to all students, professors and staff of the University:
“Dear students, dear Colleagues of our academic community,
it is with great emotion that I am writing these few lines to you. Some hours ago I was appointed by President Napolitano Judge at the Constitutional Court. I had never expected I would be asked to take up this responsibility and I cannot deny that I am honoured and intimidated at the same time. However, when President Napolitano called me, a few hours ago, asking for my availability, I could not refuse. This appointment entails the need to give up my role as Rector of our University well in advance. I am compelled to interrupt this experience which I started thanks to your support and on your behalf. An experience which taught me a lot and during which I tried, as much as possible, not to disappoint you. Albeit reluctantly, I interrupt this experience and I already feel melancholy getting closer. This period has been extraordinarily important for me and it also marked the start of a new phase in the life of our University. A period marked by the continuous discovery of a great richness of ideas, efforts and innovation permeating our entire academic community.
