The University of Trento, with the Italian Football Federation (FIGC - Federazione Italiana Giuoco Calcio) and the Autonomous Province of Trento, will host the first Hackathon on Italian Football - An innovation marathon, on Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 October 2017

This is the first football hackathon in Italy, the second event of this kind at international level (after the Manchester City hackathon), and the first ever organized by a National Football Federation.

Credits: Paolo Arsillo A Hackathon is an intense 24-48 hour computer marathon for tech-savvy people bringing together innovators, entrepreneurs, technology enthusiasts, software developers, applied researchers, whose purpose is to identify business opportunities, new technological solutions and/or software applications for the specific theme of the event.

“The hackathon – commented Michele Uva, FIGC Director General, at the presentation of the event during a training seminar - represents a new step towards the future of the FIGC that the federation wants to share with other institutions that agree with us on its importance. The Hackathon is only the last project in a wider strategic plan conceived by the federation to encourage the development of new technical, digital and IT platforms to increase the efficiency and dynamism of our associates and improve the services and products offered to our members, especially as concerns the activities of the youth and school teams and the national teams. During this first edition, we are seeking the support of the participants on two types of projects, specifically, on membership and match analysis”.

Professor Paolo Bouquet, Rector’s delegate for sport at the University of Trento, said that  “the University participates enthusiastically in this innovation exercise. We have been working intensely to support sport through UNI.Sport and the dual career programme for student-athletes, and we have started a new course with the Universiade in Trentino, focusing on sport and innovation”.

Francesco Anesi, delegate of the FIGC for relations with public institutions in Trentino, presented the organizational aspects of the event and the new website. The other members of the organizing team are Professor Carlo Alberto Carnevale Maffé (scientific coordinator), Niccoló Donna (head of the Centro Studi, Iniziative Speciali e Responsabilità Sociale d'Impresa, FIGC) and Paolo Arsillo (head of the Ufficio Vivo Azzurro, Area Comunicazione, FIGC).
