Abstract

Chromatin is assembled into repetitive units known as nucleosomes. Soluble histone pools are processed and maintained by histone chaperone proteins prior to their deposition on DNA. Once on DNA, histones have a broad impact on chromatin structures and accessibility. The chaperoning of the H3.1 and H3.3 histone variants will be discussed, with a particular focus on the ATRX chromatin remodelling protein that helps deposit H3.3.
