We have shown that biochemical and biological functions of p53 family member, p73, can be mediated by the interplay between p53 isoforms and TAp73. The altered expression of p53 family members as well as the interactions among them could affect normal function of p53 in malignant melanoma. Therefore, we determined the expression profile of p53/p73 in a panel of melanoma cell lines and tumor tissue samples by western blot analysis and qRT-PCR. Defining the interactions between protein p53α and other proteins could contribute to a better understanding of the molecular basis of melanoma.
