Abstract:

The seminar aims to provide basic information on the patentability of biotechnological inventions and in particular with reference to the rules contained in the European Patent Convention and the Italian Industrial Property Code that must be met for a patent application to be granted and thus confer monopoly rights on the patent holder. Some practical examples of biotechnological patents granted by the European Patent Office will also be discussed, as well as some information on the patent databases that can be consulted free of charge and used by inventors to conduct prior art searches in order to frame what is known about the research project.
