Title: The networked brain: interactions between emotion, motivation, and cognition

Abstract of Talk

Research on the “emotional brain” often focuses on a few structures, such as the amygdala (“fear”) and the ventral striatum (“reward”). In this presentation, Dr. Pessoa will discuss research that embraces a distributed view of both emotions and motivation-related processing, as well as efforts to unravel the impact of emotion and motivation on large-scale brain networks that are important for perception, cognition, and action. He will also talk about recent work on computational frameworks aimed at elucidating how spatiotemporal signals can be applied to decoding brain states and individual differences.
