The evolution of materials for professional sports, with a focus on professional cycling
The lecture will describe the evolution of materials and methodologies over the years, both from the point of view of research and from the point of view of practical applications, and how these methods are now being used in cycling and in other disciplines.
Welcome address:
- Paolo Carta, Director of Collegio Clesio
Lecturer:
- Luca Oggiano, PhD.
Luca Oggiano, PhD, graduated in Engineering from Politecnico di Torino and NTNU in Trondheim, and earned a doctorate in Sports aerodynamics from NTNU in Trondheim and RMIT in Melbourne. He has been working in sports aerodynamics since 2005, and has participated in the development of the materials used for the uniforms of the Norwegian national team for winter sports. Since 2017 he collaborates with Team Sky and Castelli, and has devised and designed the Vortex suit that led the UCI to review its aero fabric regulations. In 2018, he officially joined the team as Principal Aerodynamicist focusing on time trials. In 2019, with help from the Team, he co-founded NablaFlow that, in partnership with the INEOS Team, markets and disseminates some of the computational methodologies used in the design of the products used by the team, bringing advanced aerodynamic simulations within easy reach.
