In recent years, the development of biomarkers for the diagnosis of neurodegenerative diseases associated with dementia - like Alzheimer's disease, which is one of the most common - has increased significantly. These markers include neuropsychological tests for cognitive status assessment, markers of structural and functional neurodegeneration, and in vivo indicators of disease progression. We are therefore faced with a complex scenario with multiple challenges, including the need to develop and define reliable markers based on their diagnostic accuracy, and guidelines for their interpretation and use in a clinical setting. In this lecture we will discuss the relationship between cognitive markers and biomarkers, analyzing their importance in the recently published clinical and research criteria for the diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease.

Welcome address:

  • Paolo Carta, Director of Collegio Clesio

Guest lecturer:

  • Alessandra Dodich (CIMeC UniTrento)

Alessandra Dodich works as a psychologist and researcher at the Center for Neurocognitive Rehabilitation of the Center for Mind/Brain Sciences (CIMeC) of the University of Trento. After her studies and PhD in Cognitive Neuroscience at the University Vita-Salute San Raffaele, Dr. Dodich worked as a postdoc researcher at the Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging Division of the Geneva University Hospitals. Her main research interests include the study of cognitive phenotypes in neurodegenerative diseases associated with dementia, and the relationship with neurodegenerative correlates.
