About the ProHyp Conference

This is the third edition of the biannual workshop on Perspectives on Multiphase Fluid Dynamics, Continuum Mechanics and Hyperbolic Balance Laws. After the two first editions held in Magdeburg (2020) and in Marseille (2022), it is our pleasure to welcome you in Trento for the 2024 edition which will be held from April 22nd to 26th at Hotel & Ristorante Villa Madruzzo.

Objectives and topics

The objective of the Workshop is to bring together researchers from all over the world, theoreticians and numerical scientists, working on multiphase flows, hyperbolic equations and continuum mechanics.
Topics covered by the conference include:

  • Modeling, analysis and numerical simulation of multiphase flows
  • Advances in hyperbolic models of continuum mechanics and physics
  • Structure-preserving numerical methods for time-dependent PDEs
  • Free boundary problems and interface motions
  • Phase transition processes
  • Modelling and numerical simulation of flows with surface tension

In particular, the modeling, analysis and numerical treatment of multiphase fluid dynamics and classical continuum mechanics provide several difficult problems treated in the past as well as in the very recent literature. Often, very problem-specific approaches revealing different mathematical structures are used, making it difficult to provide a unified treatment of these topics.

Recently the interest in works that propose a unified approach is growing. These lead to symmetric hyperbolic systems in the sense of Friedrichs which are derived from physical principles. These hyperbolic models are capable of describing multiphase fluid dynamics as well as continuum mechanics including heat conduction and viscosity which are typically second order effects.

About Trento and the Dolomites

The historical city of Trento is situated in the autonomous Italian region of Trentino - Alto-Adige, close to the world-famous mountains called Dolomites. Trento is very easy to reach by car or train from Austria (150 km south of Innsbruck) and from Verona (90 km north of Verona). The nearest and most convenient airport is Verona Airport, 15 minutes from the Verona train station. The region around Trento is of extraordinary beauty, with its unique mountains and lakes that offer the participants many exciting outdoor activities like skiing, hiking, or climbing.
