GranularFlows 2014 is a Summer School that offers a new vision of sediment transport, hyper-concentrated flows, debris flows and snow-avalanche phenomena based on the mechanics of granular flows.
Topics
The topics that will be covered regard the physics, the constitutive relationships and the governing equations of granular flow mechanics, by considering the kinetic theory and other recent formulations in a two-phase framework. Particular attention will also be paid to the derivation and the characterization of different depth-averaged models for environmental flows with some hints on numerical aspects. Finally, a field trip in the Dolomites will give a tangible point of view on granular flows.
Target
The course is primarily intended for PhD students, post-doctoral fellows and researchers interested in acquiring the basic instruments for theoretical, experimental and numerical research on sediment transport and granular flows, which are mainly used for hydraulic hazard assessment.
At the end of the course, all participants will receive a certificate of attendance. Those interested in obtaining certified 3 ECTS will be requested to pass a short examination.
Fees
The fees for Summer School are:
- non-IAHR member euro 500,00
- IAHR member euro 450,00
Application
The application for the School requires filling out a specific form online, available at this website in the "Useful links" box (once the deadline has expired the the form online will be disabled).
The deadline for applying has been extended from June 28th to July 8th, 2014 at 12.00 (Italian time).
The Summer School is part of the Engineering Graduate School Environment Water (EGW) of the International Association of Hydro-Environment Engineering and Research (IAHR). EGW is a network of several international institutions which offer academically-orientated education courses on water and environmental related fields.
