Building a nuclear reactor is one of the most technological challenges researchers and engineers are facing. On the way there we are gaining new knowledge and overcoming the limits of conventional materials. Among them is tungsten, a prime candidate material for the inner lining of the fusion reactor. The presentation will cover the most important aspects of nuclear fusion and the requirements on the materials necessary to build safe, reliable and economical power plants. Part of the presentation will be results on tungsten material processed by Ultrafast High-temperature Sintering, i.e. an disequilibrium processing method for tungsten and tungsten alloys that can bring a new progress in the development of tungsten based alloys.
