Abstract

Internet of Things (IoT) has been on the verge of hype in the industry since 2014 and still is in the adoption phase. IoT promises new opportunities for society and industry and new business for telecom operators. But the adoption of the IoT is not an easy process at all and its complexity grows exponentially with the number of connected “things”. As this number is estimated to be 22 billion by 2024, the complexity of IoT adoption directly affects largest industrial players, standardization bodies and academia. In this presentation, we will talk about the obstacles on the way of IoT adoption by the industries and relevant technological challenges. We will see how 5G networks and artificial intelligence fuse under the scope of IoT solutions and what does that mean for Ericsson.
