Abstract

These days open-source software is everywhere. It has reshaped the landscape in the IT industry, as well as provided new innovations in many industrial sectors, especially the ones where new businesses can be established if ran in a data-driven fashion, such as in manufacturing.
At European level, many initiatives in the past have already established a framework where to contextualize the adoption and spread of open-source technologies. Among them, FIWARE Foundation is promoting the development and the adoption of open source in many verticals, and among them also in the smart manufacturing industry sector playing a pivotal role in the European and worldwide market, and being among the major drivers to invigorate the EU’s unique social market economy, and work towards technological sovereignty.
In the talk, the two co-chairs of the Smart Industry Mission Support Committee in FIWARE Foundation will present the mission and the main action streams of the community, two relevant business case on Cloud-Edge Digital Twins and Industrial Analytics applied to the manufacturing and logistic processes in Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA), as well as the role of FIWARE to promote competition and increase trust, focusing on transformative and innovative aspects and recognizes open source as a catalyst for change.
To this end, the powered-by-FIWARE solutions and use cases presented will represent the starting point of your journey to discover how FIWARE is supporting the adoption of advanced digital technologies in the manufacturing, leveraging incremental innovations based on the sharing of intangible assets (e.g. knowledge, skills and expertise, technologies, software solutions, data, and business models).
FIWARE promotes competition and increases trust in many sectors, contributing to solve complex technological and business problems towards the creation of innovative solutions for a global economy. The whole FIWARE Community is a forge of opportunities for students and young professionals, startups and even large enterprises.
