Abstract

I will discuss concrete applications of algebraic geometry and topology to optimization problems. I will focus on two main topics: (a) Euclidean distance optimization, with applications to the multiview conjecture from computer vision, and, (b) maximum likelihood estimation, with an eye towards the Huh-Sturmfels involution conjecture in likelihood geometry.
