Abstract:
We adapt the notion of quantum-mechanical completeness to situations where the only adequate description is in terms of quantum field theory in curved space-times. It is then shown that the Schwarzschild space-time, although geodesically incomplete, is complete with respect to quantum field theory. We show that quantum fields enjoy a contractive evolution near the geometrical singularity and ultimately become free.
