Entanglement: intrecci quantistici di luce
Abstract
What is light? This simple and fascinating question has been discussed over the centuries, from Newton to Einstein, generating intense and controversial debate. The theory of quantum physics has provided an answer to this enigma and led us to describe light as photons, energy quanta of electromagnetic radiation. The same theory predicts effects that seem 'paradoxical' when framed with our intuitive way of thinking and when analysed with our perception of everyday reality, such as 'quantum entanglement (entangled) states' for two photons.
In this informal meeting with some physicists from the CNR and the University of Trento, we will discuss the quantum theory of light, the fascinating, 'intriguing' and 'intricate' experiments conducted with pairs of photons that were celebrated with the award of the 2022 Nobel Prize in Physics. We will also discuss current developments towards the realisation of advanced communication technologies and quantum cryptography.
The meeting will be accompanied by short musical interludes on the topic, performed by artist Iacopo Candela (aka Candirù).
The meeting will take place from 6.30 p.m. (until approximately 7.30 p.m.) at the Bookique - Trento - Via Torre d'Augusto no. 29. The number of places is limited. To attend, you must book free of charge for one of the following dates at the following sites:
