“Career in Si Photonics”

Abstract:

The presentation goes over few differences between working with Si Photonics in academia and in industry, mentioning what is the status and the prospects for Si photonics in the work market. As an example for application of Si photonic devices potential, the area of interest of the company Rockley Photonics will be described.

Biography: Damiana Lerose studied Physics at the University of Trento, in the group of Prof. Pavesi, and then received her PhD from the Max Planck Institute for Microstructure Physics and University of Halle, Germany. Her researched focused on the fabrication and characterization of photonic devices for different applications, including optical filters and solar cells. In 2011 she started working as a Process Development Engineer at X-FAB, in Germany, a mixed-signal semiconductor foundry with both CMOS and MEMS production lines. She then moved to California, USA and is currently working there as Manager of Foundry Operations at Rockley Photonics, being responsible for the manufacturing of photonic chips with different partners and teams.
