Abstract:
The folate-mediated one-carbon metabolism (FOCM) is an interconnected network of metabolic pathways, whose disruption is associated with neural-tube defects, stroke and certain types of cancer. We use a mathematical model to investigate whether the de novo dTMP synthesis pathway is sensitive to perturbation in FOCM.
Extensions of this model allow us to further study the role of the folate-dependent enzyme MTHFS as well as the impact of the addition of the nuclear compartment on de novo dTMP synthesis.
