Abstract

The seminar will discuss the role played by the CRPD in the shaping of current EU disability law and policy. It will address the shift to a social understanding of disability in the CJEU case law and in EU law, and the mainstreaming of disability issues in EU legislation. It will then focus on the most recent Strategy on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities 2021-2030 as a blueprint for the EU action on disability the next decade.

Bio

Delia Ferri is a Professor of Law at Maynooth University and co-Director of the ALL Institute. She is an affiliated researcher at the Dirpolis Institute of Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna (Italy) within the research cluster on social rights, social inclusion and disability, and a fellow at the Burton Blatt Institute of Syracuse University (USA). 
Delia has published extensively in the fields of EU law and International, European and Comparative Disability Law. In December 2019, she has been awarded a European Research Council (ERC) Consolidator grant to undertake a research project entitled ‘Protecting the Right to Culture of Persons with Disabilities and Enhancing Cultural Diversity through European Union Law: Exploring New Paths’
