Ellen Johnson Sirleaf

Ellen Johnson Sirleaf was the first female president in the African continent. As the President of Liberia between 2006 and 2018, she led the country through the transition after the end of the civil war, achieving peace and economic growth. She was particularly active in fighting corruption and promoting women’s inclusion in the peace process in the country, but her commitment to gender equality and women’s leadership in Africa granted her the Nobel Peace Prize in 2011.
