Abstract

Energy, climate, and green transition are at the core of the EU political and institutional dialogue with Sub-Saharan Africa and among the primary areas of intervention of Neighborhood, Development, and International Cooperation Instrument to channel the biggest share of the EU external action funds in 2021-2027. This year has been key in the relations between the EU and Africa. Starting with the 6th EU-Africa Summit in February, COP27 in November has been an important momentum to take stock of the EU – Africa relations in the areas of the green transition. The lecture aims to assess the recent developments of EU-Africa relations in the field of climate change and sustainabilitysustainability and highlighthow the EU and Sub Saharan African countries and institutions can deliver concrete results on the energy transition and adaptation agendas.

Duccio Maria Tenti - European Commission 

Bio

Duccio Maria Tenti works as a policy officer of the European Commission at DG International Partnerships where is in charge of political dialogue and institutional relations with SS African countries and institutions in the fields of climate change and sustainable energy. He was responsible and negotiator on sustainable energy and climate change at the 6th EU-Africa Summit 2022 and he is in charge of coordinating and representing the European Commission in international climate summits and at COP26 and COP27. He is a lecturer on climate change and EU – Africa relations at Universita Statale Degli Studi di Milano, Universita LUMSA, and SciencesPo Paris. He holds a bachelor in international relations from the University of Trieste and a master of science in EU politics from the London School of Economics and Political Science.
