Abstract

In his intervention the Secretary-General will describe the role and functioning of the European Parliament. In particular he will share his reflections on possible changes after the 2024 European elections, the EP internal reform process, and insights on the Parliament's role in global geopolitical context.

Bio

Born in Moena (Italy) in 1968, Mr Alessandro Chiocchetti, is the European Parliament’s Secretary-General.
A graduate of Political Science and International Law from the University of Padua, Mr Chiocchetti furthered his studies there with a Postgraduate Diploma in International Law, Economics, History, and European Integration.
In a career spanning several decades, Mr Chiocchetti has held various key positions within the European Parliament, showcasing his expertise in legislative coordination, committee management and executive leadership.
Prior to taking up his current position as Secretary-General in January 2023, Mr Chiocchetti served as Head of Cabinet for President Metsola and as Deputy Head of Cabinet for President Tajani. He also held managerial positions within the Directorate-General for Internal Policies of the Union and was a Member of Cabinet for the previous two Secretaries-General of the European Parliament.
