Abstract:

The analysis of the linkages between democracy and economic growth is a long-standing issue in economics and political science. In particular, what are the channels of the effect of democracy on economic development identified in the literature? What are the available data on democracy? How is the level of democracy measured in practice? How are the democratic transitions identified? What is the empirical evidence on the effect of democracy on economic growth?

Discussant:

Andrea Fracasso, School of International Studies and Department of Economics and Management, University of Trento
