Optical fiber sensing: technology and applications
Speaker
Fabrizio Di Pasquale, Institute of Mechanical Intelligence Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies - Pisa
Abstract
The seminar will introduce optical fiber sensing technology considering point, multiplexed and distributed sensors. After a brief introduction on the basic physical mechanisms, the main industrial applications will be described. Specific examples will be reported concerning applications in the railway, automotive and energy sectors, also pointing out the potential of smart materials, in which embedded fiber optic sensors allow for real time monitoring of critical structures.
