The Conference Group on Italian Politics and Society-CONGRIPS decided to award the 2022 Life Achievement Award to Simona Piattoni, Professor of the Department of Sociology and Social Research of UniTrento, for her outstanding contribution to raising the profile of Italy and Italian political science beyond Italy.
The jury provided a detailed explanation for its unanimous decision: the internationalism of her profile; her research work and publications on clientelism, multi-governance, informal governance and the European Union (to name a few), of which she is an expert and which earned her an international readership; the teaching assignments in Tromsø, Norway (1994-2000) and Innsbruck, Austria (2010-2011) and the position of adjunct professor of Governance at the University of Agder, Norway (2014-2018). Simona Piattoni has also held important roles as a member of the Executive Committee of the European Consortium for Political Research-ECPR from 2009 to 2015, which she also chaired from 2012 to 2015, and as President of the Italian Political Science Association-SISP from 2015 to 2018.
The jury also considered that Simona Piattoni helped raise the visibility and understanding of Italian politics and policymaking abroad, and the profile of Italian political science as a discipline both abroad and at home.
