CIMeC, the Centre for Mind/Brain Sciences of the University of Trento, has a new director. Yuri Bozzi takes over from Carlo Miniussi, who led the centre for two terms in the past six years. Professor Bozzi was designated by the Academic Senate during today’s meeting. The new three-year term starts tomorrow, 1st October, and can be renewed.

Yuri Bozzi is a Professor of Physiology who has earned a Master’s degree in biological sciences from the University of Pisa and a PhD in neurobiology from Scuola Normale Superiore in Pisa. He has been working at UniTrento since 2010, held numerous research positions in Italy and abroad (for example at the Strasbourg’s Institut de génétique et de biologie moléculaire et cellulaire), is a member of the Federation of European Neuroscience Societies and of the International Brain Research Organization, and of many scientific consortia.

He has also chaired the Committee for recruitment and career advancement of UniTrento.
Professor Bozzi has been the coordinator of the research programme on neurobiology and development and of the Trentino Autism Initiative-Train, a strategic project of UniTrento that investigated the biological mechanisms responsible for various behaviours of autism spectrum disorders.

In addition to autism, Yuri Bozzi is also interested in epilepsy, brain disorders and development issues, which he studies following an approach based on physiology and anatomy. His goal is to investigate the molecular dynamics and the role of genes to improve, over time, the treatment of the various disorders.
