Paolo Carta is the new Dean of the Faculty of Law

He is a full professor of History of political doctrines and will lead the department for the next three years

New leadership at the Faculty of Law of the University of Trento. The Department Council has elected Paolo Carta as its new dean with 84 votes, 8 blank votes. Eligible voters were 98, and 92 cast their ballot (turnout was around 94%). The online election took place through the Eligo voting platform, with ballots opening at 10.00 in the morning and closing at 15.00. The doyen of the Faculty, professor Gian Antonio Benacchio, supervised the voting procedure.

Paolo Carta, who was the sole candidate, will take office in the coming days and will lead the faculty until 2025, when he will have the opportunity to run again for the post. He is also the Rector’s delegate for Collegio Clesio, and takes over from Fulvio Cortese who has recently resigned for personal reasons.

Paolo Carta is full professor of History of political doctrines and currently teaches Leadership and Governance, Political Theory and History of law at the Faculty of Law and at the School of International Studies of the University of Trento.

He authored many articles on legal pluralism, legal and political thought in the modern era, the history of diplomacy, leadership and the rule of law.

He has held posts as visiting scholar and given many lectures in European and American universities and institutions, including the École Normale Supérieure, the University of Oxford and Columbia University in New York
He is a member of the Executive Board of the Italian Academy for Advanced Studies in America of Columbia University in New York.

In addition to his position as professor of the Faculty of Law, Carta is also a member of the steering committee of the Associazione italiana degli storici delle dottrine politiche (Italian association of historians of political doctrines) and a member of the American Political Science Association. He is currently a member of Anvur’s GEV for area 14 and has been a member of the board for the award of the National Scientific Qualification. He is a member of the scientific committees of several journals, including Laboratoire Italien and Storia del Pensiero politico.
