Gianluca Lattanzi is the new director of the Department of Physics

He will lead the department for the next three years

The Department of Physics of the University of Trento has a new director. Gianluca Lattanzi, Full Professor of Applied Physics, was elected for the three-year term 2023-2026 and will take office on 9 November.

There were 73 eligible voters, 69 cast their ballot, 5 votes were blank.

Gianluca Lattanzi received 38 votes, above the absolute majority of votes required for a full professor to be elected.

Giovanni Prodi, another candidate to the department's leadership, received 26 votes.

The elections took place online. Gianluca Lattanzi takes over from Franco Dalfovo, who has been director for the last three years.

Gianluca Lattanzi co-chairs the courses of Computational Biophysics, Physics and Computer Science, Molecular Physics and Quantum mechanics.

Lattanzi graduated in Physics from the University of Bari and earned a PhD in Condensed Matter Theory from Sissa in Trieste (International School for Advanced Studies), and was awarded the Marie Curie Individual Fellowship (2002) and a Marie Curie Reintegration Grant (2004). He has been working at the University of Trento since 2016. He has participated in third mission events such as Fisicittà and Teatro della meraviglia (the Theatre of Wonder).

His research interests include the application of theoretical-computational methods to biological and/or medical problems, in particular as regards simulations in molecular dynamics. He is a member of various organizations and scientific committees such as the Biophysical Society, the Italian Society of Physics, the Italian Society of Pure and Applied Biophysics and Cicap (the Italian Committee for the investigation of claims of the pseudo sciences).
