Rotary Club and Associazione Parkinson make donations to help create the first biobank in Trentino

The biobank will have a crucial role in the diagnosis and research on rare diseases

Versione stampabile

Rotary Club Trento and Associazione Parkinson Trento have donated 10,000 euro each to support the establishment of a biobank at the Department of Cellular, Computational and Integrative Biology - Cibio of the Universitiy of Trento.

The biobank is a key resource for diagnosis and research purposes. It is fundamental for the collection, storage and distribution of biological samples and the relevant clinical and epidemiological information, under adequate safety and quality standards and protecting the rights of all parties involved.

By providing researchers with high-quality samples, the biobank will promote research projects that can contribute to the identification of genes that cause diseases or that are associated with diseases, the study of molecular mechanisms and the development of therapeutic strategies. This will lead to an improvement in scientific knowledge with benefits for public health in terms of early diagnosis, more effective treatments and better life expectancy.

The donations from Rotary Club and Associazione Parkinson will make it possible to purchase a -80°C ultracold mechanical freezer equipped with liquid nitrogen back-up, which is fundamental to maintain the internal temperature in the event of an emergency or in case of power failure.
