Smart cities: a free and secure network that lets the whole city communicate

The city of Trento is becoming ever more Smart and has opened the gates to the “Internet of Things” thanks to an “ecosystem” made available by the Department of Industrial Engineering.

Citizens, schools, institutions, start ups and businesses in the area will be able to connect to each other thanks to a free and secure network that brings information and services where they are needed, that is, to the users.

An experimental wireless access point has been installed in the Building 2 of the Polo Ferrari in Povo is able to cover the entire city and is already connecting the first businesses and start-ups.

Trento has been able to study up close this telecommunications revolution as it has recently hosted the IEEE European Summor School on Smart Cities.

Big data, gamification, online security, transport and intelligent building are just some of the themes that have been discussed with international experts in the edition held in Trento.
