“Posto occupato”: UniTrento joins the campaign to raise awareness about violence against women

From 20 to 26 November

Versione stampabile

25 November is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1999.

To commemorate this day, the University of Trento joins the Posto Occupato campaign, that will take place from 20 to 26 November 2017, to raise awareness about all forms of violence and discrimination against women.

Empty chairs with a sign that reads "This seat is taken", symbolically reserved for women who have been victims of violence, have been placed in the Sala Stucchi in via Calepina 14 and in other University premises, to invite a reflection on the issue.

Also, a 24/7 telephone hotline was launched this year by the Women’s Shelter in Trento (Centro antiviolenza e stalking):

1522

a number that women can call to get help or support.

About the campaign
Posto occupato is dedicated to all women who have been victims of violence. Before a husband, a former boyfriend, a lover or a stranger decided to put an end to their lives, those women would have taken seats in theatres, on buses, in schools, on the train, in society. Those seats are taken to remember those women, so that their memory survives in our daily lives.
