UniTrento awarded the Italian Physical Society Prize for Scientific Communication

Versione stampabile

The Prize for Scientific Communication of the Italian Physical Society (SIF) was awarded this year to Alessandra Saletti, head of the Press Office of the University of Trento, for authoring the original Trento-Solvay photographic project about women in physics, which gained immediate success and had a profound impact at national and international level.

The famous photograph of the Solvay conference of 1927, which portrayed 28 men scientists and one single woman, Marie Skłodowska Curie, was re-staged on the occasion of the Italian Physical Society national congress at the University of Trento with 28 Italian women physicists and only one man (professor Guido Tonelli from the University of Pisa).

The purpose of the initiative was to give visibility to the women scientists working in physics in Italy and to raise awareness on the importance of female role models in scientific settings.
