Community: the student-run show is back on RTTR

Six episodes to describe university life in Trento with students of the Department of Humanities

Versione stampabile

CommUNIty, the tv show created by RTTR and the University of Trento, is back on the local broadcaster.

After a successful first season, which aired in June, a new season will debut on Friday at 13.20 for six 10-minute episodes. This is new and dynamic tv show that will portrait university life and students in their associations, both within and outside the university.

It is entirely in English and is presented by students of the University, who are participating in a unique internship programme that will introduce them to the complexities of creating a tv show and to working in a high-paced environment.

The themes of this second season are, again, student associations, programmes of study, and research projects that provide a link between the academic environment and the world of work. The episodes will focus, among others, on Ingegneria senza frontiere, the E-Agle Racing Team, ENACTUS, and the Tandem Language Learning Program of the Department of Humanities.

The students from the Department of Humanities will be supervised by Andrea Binelli, professor of English language and translation at the Department of Humanities, and, on the side of RTTR, by Simone Casciano, a journalist who is in charge of video productions, and Gaia Stamilla, project coordinator.

The interns will shoot the videos for the subjects they will present in the episodes, will author the scripts and conduct the interviews, in English.

Every episode is divided in three parts. The calendar part, which will be set in different areas of university life, will review the main events of the week that preceded the airing of the episode. The central part will focus on one or more student associations. The last part will give an overview of the events of the week to come.

The CommUNIty Team
The five students who are participating in the internship programme are Elena Ardengo, Valentina Ceradini, Luca De Mattia, Maja Urukalo Franov and Simone Ronchi from the Department of Humanities. They are enrolled in the Master’s degree in Euroamerican Literatures, translation and literary criticism, which includes a 50-hour internship. Vittorio Bonino and Chiara Polli, PhD candidates from the same department, are also involved.
“The first time in front of the camera, holding a microphone, has been a new and a little scary experience” students commented in a break between shots. “But after some initial unease we built confidence and in a month we were able to shoot all the material for the entire season of CommUNIty”.
“I welcomed this RTTR project enthusiastically and we are working on other opportunities with them – commented professor Binelli – because I believe there are good connections between language learning in a university setting and the world of communication. It has been great to see students having fun while learning and gaining experience outside of the academic environment”.
