The University of Trento and Fondazione Leonardo-Civiltà delle Macchine will work together to promote research on law and artificial intelligence

The agreement was signed yesterday by the President of the foundation, Luciano Violante, and the Rector of the University of Trento, Paolo Collini.

The BioLaw Journal of the University, in particular, will feature a permanent section on artificial intelligence to encourage a discussion on its legal aspects through the publication of materials and articles.

The collaboration between Fondazione Leonardo and the University of Trento will help examine the legal implications and potential advantages of artificial intelligence, and identify possible regulatory models and areas of intervention, and will also improve the understanding of the importance of innovation and new technologies for civil society, through studies, research work and projects, with a future-oriented approach.

Fondazione Leonardo has a leading role in encouraging research on AI as demonstrated more recently by the international conference on the ethical and legal status of AI, which was held on 21 and 22 November 2019 at the Chamber of Deputies.

The purpose of the foundation is to create an environment where academics, public representatives and high-tech businesses can work together to define a reference framework for companies dealing with AI, and to give policymakers a set of regulations for the use of new technologies.

Fondazione Leonardo-Civiltà delle Macchine was established in November 2018 by Società Leonardo to encourage dialogue with civil society while promoting industrial and business culture, archives, museums and cultural heritage, and disseminating knowledge on the importance of new technologies for a new digital humanism. Among the areas of activity of Fondazione Leonardo is the quarterly journal Civiltà delle Macchine, which aims to facilitate dialogue between arts and sciences.
