The University community is deeply saddened by the premature death of Daniele Catorci, a doctoral student of the University, who fell in a crevasse on 27 June on Gran Paradiso, in Valle d'Aosta.

Daniele Catorci, who had earned a master of science degree in Advanced chemical methodologies at the University of Camerino – the city where he grew up with his family – had recently moved to Trento to pursue a doctorate in Biomolecular sciences at Cibio, attracted among other things by a passion for mountains.

In 2018 he was awarded a doctoral scholarship funded by the Euregio project EFH - Environment Food Health, coordinated by Dr. Kieran Tuohy (Fondazione Edmund Mach). He had been carrying out his doctorate at the Laboratory of bio-organic chemistry of the Physics Department under the supervision of Professor Graziano Guella, studying the molecular aspects (lipidic characterization of biological matrices) of metabolic disorders in the population of Euregio (Tirol Südtirol Trentino European region).

A few words from Professor Graziano Guella:
"The tragic loss of Daniele brings sadness to all those who knew him. A friendly, kind and genuine young man, who blended in perfectly with the local community of researchers, at UniTrento and FEM in particular. He will also be missed by the community of CIBIO researchers with whom he had established a strong friendship beyond work".
