Franco Dalfovo is the new Director of the Physics Department

The Department of Physics of the University of Trento has a new director, Franco Dalfovo, who starts his three-year term today. He was elected on Thursday, 12 November, with 56 votes. 

Of the 66 eligible voters, 63 cast their ballot, there were 5 blank and 3 void votes. The election took place online. Franco Dalfovo takes over from former director Giulio Monaco.

Franco Dalfovo has been full professor of material physics at the University of Trento since 2005, and had already run the Department of Physics in the past (from 2005 to 2008).
Born in Mezzolombardo in 1960, Franco Dalfovo earned a degree in Physics in Trento in 1984. He obtained his doctorate in Padova in 1988 and conducted post-doc research in Paris and Grenoble. He held positions as researcher in Trento from 1990 to 1999, and as associate professor in Brescia from 2000 to 2004, while he returned to Trento in 2005 as full professor.
He was a member of the Evaluation Group and of the Committee for Recruitment and Career Advancement at UniTrento. He led the Trento section of the National Institute of Optics of the National Research Council (Cnr-Ino-Bec Center). He is an editor of the Physical Review of the American Physical Society and of the Physical Review Research.
He gives courses in general physics III in the second year and of quantum mechanics in the third year of the degree programme in physics. His research interests are in quantum gases and fluids, ultracold atoms and superfluidity. He has published about one hundred papers in international journals.
