Student election: voter turnout reached almost 40%

New student representatives elected for 2020-2022 term. Voter turnout increased compared to past elections.

Almost 40% of the students of the University of Trento cast their ballot online on Tuesday to elect their representatives in University bodies and in the committees of departments and centres for the 2020-2022 term.

That is an increase compared to past elections. In 2018 voter turnout was 31.6; this year it reached on average 38.13% in the election of representatives in the bodies and committees of departments and centres, and 39.81% for representatives in Central University bodies.

The lists of candidates competed against each other in a system ensuring proportional representation. The unofficial results were released today by the Collegial Bodies Office of the University of Trento. The electoral committee will verify the results by 30 November.

The elected representatives will be in office for two years from the date of their appointment.

Central University bodies – Most voted lists

For the election of representatives in the Academic Senate, the list that overall obtained more votes is UNITiN (3268 of the 6091 votes), followed by UDU Trento, SIAMO UNITN, and Fronte della Gioventù Comunista.
For the Joint Committee for the right to study and the valorisation of merit: UNITiN received the most votes (3474 on 6654), followed by UDU Trento and SIAMO UNITN.
For the election of representatives in the Board of Opera Universitaria, UNITiN obtained 3190 of 6099 votes, followed by UDU Trento, SIAMO UNITN, and Fronte della Gioventù Comunista.
UNITiN obtained a large number of votes for the Sport committee (3106 of 6104 votes), followed by UDU Trento and SIAMO UNITN.

Central University bodies – The new members

The new members of the Academic Senate are Francesca Grassi (UNITiN) and Mattia Guarnerio (UDU Trento).
Students sitting in the Joint Committee for the right to study and the valorisation of merit are: Angelica Piselli, Fiorella Bredariol and Giorgia Lombardi (UNITiN), and Giulia Barozzi (UDU Trento).
The Board of Directors of Opera Universitaria now includes Edoardo Meneghini and Nahid Aliyari (UNITiN), and Claudia Sofia Scandola (UDU Trento).
Enrica Brugnara (UNITiN) and Federico Ravazzolo (UDU Trento) were elected to the Sport committee.

Further data

There were overall 144 positions to be filled. 11 positions in University bodies: 2 in the Academic Senate, 4 in the Joint Committee for the Right to Study and the Valorisation of merit, 3 in the Board of Directors of Opera Universitaria, and 2 in the Sport committee. The student community was also invited to elect 133 representatives in the bodies of the various programmes of study (department councils, centre councils, subject area committees). 50 lists with 265 candidates were admitted to participate in the election. The students with voting rights were 16,714 in the academic year 2020/2021 (registered students and students who are about to obtain an undergraduate degree).
